Cedar Rapids man arrested for neglecting dog and seven puppies, one of which died

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) – A Cedar Rapids man was arrested for neglecting a Pit Bull Terrier and their seven pups, which resulted in the death of one of the pups.

Demetrius Huston-Stuart, 30, was arrested Tuesday morning for 7 deaths and neglect and was taken to the Linn County Correctional Center.

Cedar Rapids and Animal Care & Control police issued a search warrant at 217 5th Street NW on July 2 after they were informed of a three-month-old puppy who died in the care of Huston-Stuart. According to the police, the dead puppy was left with the other dogs.

The search found six puppies covered in urine and feces. According to veterinary records, the mother and the pups were significantly underweight and malnourished. Huston-Stuart is accused of improperly feeding the mother and her pups.

The six surviving pups and their mother are currently recovering at Animal Care & Control. The pups are reported to respond well to normal feeding.
