The streets leading to the entrance to the CIA headquarters were later reopened after investigators gave the all-clear, officials say.
MCLEAN, Virginia – The area around the CIA headquarters in McLean was temporarily closed on Friday due to police activity.
Officials said they investigated a suspicious electronic device located on a sidewalk pillar near the property’s entrance gate – resulting in a complete lockdown of the property for a period of time.
After further investigation, CIA officials told WUSA9 that they had identified the small electronic device as a dog collar with no “safety implications”. The streets leading to the entrance to the CIA headquarters were later cleared after investigators gave the all-clear.
CIA: Suspicious object starting an investigation at the McLean Complex was … wait for it … a remote control for a dog collar. If you’re a dog owner in the area and are missing an item like this, you might find it in the CIA treasure trove. But I wouldn’t suggest looking. https://t.co/WZ4kRFMYR2

In May, a man shot dead by an FBI agent when he appeared armed outside the CIA headquarters.
Two law enforcement sources told CBS News that the man’s name was Roy Gordon Cole, but did not provide any further details about him.
Both the CIA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to a “suspicious vehicle” in front of the CIA headquarters in McLean shortly before 6:00 p.m. on May 3, shortly before 6:00 p.m. A statement from the Washington branch of the FBI said a man got out of his car with a gun.
The FBI said the man was wounded when police officers “became engaged” to him and he was taken to hospital for treatment.
“The FBI reviews every shootout that involves an FBI special agent,” tweeted the FBI Washington office. “The review carefully examines the circumstances of the shooting and collects all relevant evidence from the scene. As the review is still ongoing, we cannot provide any further details at the moment. “
