Police are looking for two thieves who broke into a house near Bendigo and beat up an elderly woman before escaping with four puppies.
The attack occurred around 11 a.m. on Sunday when the men entered the Springs Road house in the Bendigo suburb of Sedgwick.
The 82-year-old woman confronted the men and one of them pushed her to the ground.
She had bruises on the left side of her body and spent the night in Bendigo Hospital.
Four puppies of all breeds were also stolen in the break-in.
The men are described as African and drove a gray, older Mercedes sedan with no license plates.
Kim from the nearby Mandurang Post Office said the attack rocked the community.
“Everyone in the church who speaks to me has a lot of compassion and support for them,” she said.
“People are shocked that it could happen in our church, we are a very safe church. It’s horrible what happened, it could have been any of us.
“The thought of someone watching you is scary.”
Kim posted a post on Facebook to alert the community, with the post having been shared hundreds of times.
The police are calling on anyone with additional information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
