Investigation open after eight dogs die at local dog training business

PORTSMOUTH, VA. – Portsmouth Animal Control is investigating a dog training company after eight dogs die.

Officials said around noon on May 26 that the Portsmouth Animal Control Unit became aware of a possible incident of animal cruelty at Virginia Beach Dog Training, which resulted in the death of eight dogs.

They said the investigation was still ongoing and had no further information at this point.

The Virginia Beach Dog Training posted on social media stating that a “freak accident” occurred and they lost their own dogs as well as several clients’ dogs.

In the post the shop said:

“We are devastated by the loss and have tried to show compassion and respect for the wishes of the parents of the lost. We were in direct, timely contact with everyone affected by the accident and were transparent about what was happening around The Accident Once the immediate crisis was resolved, we investigated the cause, identified and resolved the equipment failure, and continued to take action to prevent this situation from occurring again.

We were in contact with the animal control and cooperated fully with their investigation.
