Man adopts puppy he saved from 7 stab wounds

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (WTKR) – A Virginia puppy was found stabbed and bleeding profusely just minutes before death, but a good Samaritan rescued her and gave her a forever home.

Pitbull puppy Smoke is full of energy and is learning new tricks. Miraculously, it has no lasting effects from the seven knife wounds that its previous owner allegedly inflicted on May 18th.

Brad Chambers found the bitch under his truck in downtown Portsmouth, Virginia after she escaped the attack. She was only minutes from death.

“The stab wound went so deep into her throat that it damaged her windpipe,” said Chambers. “It was air that escaped from her windpipe into her lungs and into the chest cavity around her heart.”

Chambers saved Smoke’s life with a trauma kit he had in his truck. She was then admitted to a Suffolk animal hospital and eventually underwent surgery at the North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine.

Her road to recovery cost a whopping $ 15,000 – some paid for by Chambers, the rest through fundraising.

“She’s one of the most loving dogs I’ve ever met,” said Chambers. “She has almost completely recovered from all operations. She has a lot of energy and her loyalty is pretty solid. “

When Smoke’s owner, charged with animal cruelty, forfeited his property, Chambers re-entered and adopted the pup.

“This is a dog that needs to find a place where everyone around him can benefit from his love, and yes, I love dogs,” said Chambers. “This is a dog to share the next seasons of my life with and all the memories one can have.”

Smoke is now on its way to becoming a certified therapy dog.
