New dog grooming business opens in Downtown Elmira

ELMIRA, NY (WETM) – A new dog grooming store has opened in downtown Elmira, offering a closer option for many who live in the city. Uncle Carl’s Dog Grooming opened on Wednesday and the owner has seen stable business so far.

Carl Barnes-Dieterle, who used to groom dogs in a large box shop in Big Flats, wanted to open in downtown Elmira because there weren’t many options in town. At Uncle Carl, small and large breeds are welcome, and short-haired or long-haired dogs are also welcome.

Carl told 18 News that he uses an aloe vera-based shampoo that does not contain harsh perfumes and is good for the dog’s skin. For quick appointments, he also does the nail clipping.

Uncle Carl’s Dog Grooming is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Due to COVID-19, appointments should be made early.

When asked about the name, Carl said, “I just came up with a name because basically I’ve been working in other places when they bring their dogs and they said, oh, there’s Uncle Carl so I thought perfect. ”

Uncle Carl’s Dog Grooming is located on 203 College Avenue in Elmira, NY
