NKU police greet the new officer, a 17-week-old puppy

Meet Athena. Northern Kentucky University’s Police Department has welcomed a new member to its ranks. The 17 week old police dog was greeted on campus this week along with handler officer John Murray. “Watch out for big kisses,” police officers wrote. Athena replaces K9 officer Arrit, who died earlier this year after years of service. Arrit has served the NKU community and the Greater Cincinnati area since 2013. The department said Arrit is “a devoted and loyal partner to Officer John Murray” and is greatly missed.
