A Beijing puppy named Gilbert is being treated in the Ottawa Humane Society’s intensive care unit after being thrown out of the window of a moving car in western Ottawa last week.
A witness pulled him up and called the Ottawa statutes, according to the OHS, and a statute officer took the puppy to an out-of-hours veterinary clinic.
The nine week old puppy could barely move and had difficulty breathing when he was brought into the care of humane society.
A specialist helped determine that three of Gilbert’s ribs near his spine were broken, which likely caused breathing problems.
The puppy’s current treatment regimen includes rest and pain medication, and the OHS has reported the case to the province with concerns about possible abuse or neglect.
Those looking to donate to support Gilbert’s care – whose bill currently exceeds $ 3,000, according to the OHS – can visit ottawahumane.ca/Gilbert.
He will soon be going to a foster home to see the rest of his recovery and prepare for a permanent home.
