CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A recent study by Rover identified the five most popular dog breeds in Charleston, with the list ranging from tiny lap dogs to born and bred hunters.
The English Bulldog took first place. English Bulldogs are a medium-sized, well-tempered breed that requires only moderate exercise. It easily adapts to a relaxed or active lowcountry lifestyle.
In second place the German Shorthaired Pointer. The highly intelligent, trainable breed is popular with hunters and fishermen.

The American Staffordshire Terrier came in third. The affectionate, sporty breed is ideal for active families.
Fourth place went to Labradoodles and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Labradoodles ranks 15th nationwide. A cross between a poodle and a lab, pets are loyal and affectionate. They are also “somewhat hypoallergenic”.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are people who please. Active but also contented naps all day long, friendly and docile, they are perfect for almost any dog owner. Their small but not too small size makes them easy to go on excursions in the Lowcountry.
