No, you’re not fooling yourself – everyone you know has truly become pet parents in the last year. Among American dog owners, around 67% said they were bringing a new puppy home in the age of the pandemic, and with slower schedules and more flexible options for working from home, which includes even us normally too busy New Yorkers.
While small spaces and strict landlords may make it a little harder to find the right fur baby, a new survey from Rover proves we still have plenty of adorable options when it comes to choosing the ideal dog for city life.
What race is currently ruling NYC?
Depending on how many furry influencers you follow, you might be surprised that no, it’s not Le French Bulldog!
We love you French, but right now cockapoos have taken the crown.
The fluffy teddy bear-like breed is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Not only are they absolutely adorable, they’re smart, super friendly, and stay relatively small. According to Rover, “They’re pretty adaptable, so they can be in an apartment or house, in the city or in the country, wandering, exploring, or just snuggling on the couch with loved ones.” No wonder they make such amazing urban pooches!
Rounding out the top 5 list of the city’s most popular puppies is Havanese, yes, French Bulldogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and American Pit Bull Terriers (which, by the way, are gentle and family-friendly!).
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to finally bring home a new best friend, we’d say this is it!
