This Is the Least Popular Dog Breed in the U.S., Data Shows

Dogs and humans have been linked by a special bond for centuries, which has earned them the reputation of “man’s best friend”. However, according to international research and analysis group YouGov, that doesn’t prevent Americans from having clear preferences about which canine companions they like best – and least -.

To find out which dogs are the most popular and the least popular, YouGov compiled labeled images of 193 dog breeds and asked 2,541 Americans to indicate which of the two breeds they preferred in a series of 10 head-to-head comparisons. Looking at the results of nearly 25,500 comparisons, the researchers found a “win percentage” for each breed, which represents the frequency with which Americans preferred them over the other dog they were compared to. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Labrador Retrievers took the coveted spot as the most popular dog breed in America, taking 83 percent of wins in their match-ups, while Golden Retrievers followed closely at 78 percent. However, other dogs were less popular because they won much less often. Read on to find out which dog breeds are the least popular in the United States, according to YouGov data – and which breed is America’s absolute least popular.
